W Florence

Project name: W Florence
Project type: Hotel
Location: Florence, Italy
Architect: GLA

The W Florence hotel by GLA is the September Monthly Winner of the Shaping Surfaces competition by Cleaf.

Opened inside the former Grand Hotel Majestic, a stone’s throw from the Duomo and the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, in the building designed in 1968 by Lando Bartoli, which still retains its rationalist imprint. It has been restored with a view to sustainability and with the desire to recirculate the visionary spirit of 1970s Italy, when design was a form of cultural expression and fashion dictated the mood of the era.

The 119 rooms – including 16 suites and a penthouse offering views of the Duomo – feature graphicspatterns, materials, and dramatic lighting inspired by Renaissance architecture and Florentine fashion.
The exotic Matrix LM95 and Poro Noce LS54 walnut wood effects have been chosen to create a warm atmosphere in the rooms, complementing the walls and cabinet closet.
